SSPO works closely with local and national Government to achieve a sustainable, profitable salmon farming industry.

The salmon farming industry worked closely with Marine Scotland and other Scottish Government departments and stakeholders in the development of the Renewed Strategic Framework for Aquaculture and continues this collaboration in each of the Working Groups emerging from the framework to meet its aspirations.

 Key themes are:

  • Healthier fish and shellfish
  • Improved systems for licensing aquaculture developments
  • Improved containment
  • Better marketing and improved image
  • Improved access to finance

The industry provides input to relevant Government and Local Authority consultations and debate to participate fully in policy for the sustainable development of Scotland.

Regular contact is maintained with relevant MSPs, MPs and MEPs to ensure policy is fully informed on industry activity, opportunities and challenges.
