The Wider Benefits of Salmon Farming
Salmon farming is at the centre of wealth creation and skilled employment for rural Scotland, producing training and education programmes in areas where other options are few and far between. However, it goes much further than that. Members of Scottish Salmon Producers' Organisation are at the forefront of technological and husbandry research and development, as well as being world leaders in animal welfare.
Some of the wider benefits of salmon farming are illustrated in the following diagram.

"Fish farming has created a large number of jobs in small rural communities throughout the length and breadth of the Highlands and Islands and that has been exceedingly important in diversifying local economies and in reducing unemployment in areas where other options are particularly difficult to create."
