Scottish Quality Salmon to Support Independent Fishmongers and Retailers with New Consumer Leaflet

Scottish Quality Salmon is to support independent fishmongers that are members of The SQS Club and retailers with a new consumer leaflet titled ‘Scottish Quality Salmon – the facts’.

The consumer leaflet highlights the following:
the abundance of scientific evidence that testifies to the health benefits of eating oily fish such as farmed salmon;
omega-3 essential fatty acids – what they are, why they are good for us and how much we should consume;
salmon farming in Scotland and the role of Scottish Quality Salmon;
how to spot the difference and buy Tartan Quality Mark salmon, and;
versatile recipes for all of the family.

Some 750,000 leaflets will be distributed via the 250-plus members of The SQS Club and participating Safeway and Morrisons stores. Independent fishmongers are also to receive a point of sale kit, which includes posters and carrier bags.

Commenting on the new consumer leaflet, Brian Simpson, Chief Executive of Scottish Quality Salmon said: “There is an increasing wealth of evidence about the health benefits of regular salmon consumption and this leaflet presents those messages alongside information on the quality of Tartan Quality Mark salmon and salmon farming in Scotland.

“It will also give advice on how to identify salmon that has been produced to the standards of the world’s most stringent, independently inspected quality assurance scheme in a form that consumers will undoubtedly enjoy,” he added.

The consumer leaflet is a follow up communication to the A5 flier that was produced immediately after the Science report and distributed to independent fishmongers and retailers.

Notes to Editors:

Scottish Quality Salmon is dedicated to improving the quality and sustainability of salmon farming in Scotland – from feed companies through to salmon smokers and processors – the whole production chain. Membership now represents 65% of the tonnage produced by the Scottish salmon farming industry.
