Scottish Quality Salmon Welcomes Package from Scottish Executive to Support Healthy Eating MessageBrian Simpson, Chief Executive of Scottish Quality Salmon, welcomed today’s (Tuesday 18th May) Scottish Executive announcement of support for the Scottish farmed salmon industry. “I am delighted that the Scottish Executive is supporting the industry in its campaign to promote the health benefits of eating Scottish farmed salmon. The success of the Scottish Quality Salmon’s product quality schemes and environmental practices are well recognised by retailers across the UK and France, as well as by the French Government which awarded us the most prestigious Label Rouge quality award some 12 years ago. “We aim to continue developing both the UK and European markets and ensure that consumers understand the quality standards and health benefits of choosing Scottish farmed salmon, whether marketed under our Tartan Quality Mark or the French Label Rouge. “We presented a development plan to the Scottish Executive for consideration under the FIFG scheme and will fund industry’s share through member companies’ contributions. The programme of work will include market research and monitoring, consumer education, public relations and in-store information and is scheduled to begin immediately.” Ends 18/05/2004 Notes to Editors: The project will last for 2 years. Industry will contribute £1.5 million as 50% of the total package.
