Teachers, parents, carers and doctors hear why salmon is good for adults and childrenAttendees at two major Scottish food and nutrition conferences over the next two days will learn the latest on the benefits of regular salmon consumption for adults and children. As part of a conference which will review latest developments in research into the beneficial effects of omega-3 essential fatty acids on growth and cognitive development, heart health and a number of other areas in which research suggests benefits, Dr John Webster, scientific advisor to Scottish Quality Salmon will discuss the January salmon food scare in a scientific context, analysing the substance of the scare and the overwhelming international scientific condemnation of it. He will also outline the very robust safety and food quality measures to which salmon farmers in Scottish Quality Salmon work. Finally he highlights the nutritional advice issued earlier this year by the Food Standards Agency, suggesting that everyone in the UK can eat two portions of oil-rich fish per week and most can eat four as part of a healthy and balanced diet.
