Highland welcome extended to senior US political representatives by Scottish Quality Salmon

A Highland welcome is to be extended to a delegation of senior American political representatives by Scottish Quality Salmon (SQS) tonight in Edinburgh at an event organised by the Scottish Executive Scottish Affairs Office in Washington DC to support this year’s Tartan Week celebrations in the USA.

As part of the first-ever official Congressional visit to Scotland, SQS has been invited to give an informal presentation about the best of Scottish salmon. “This is a valuable opportunity to showcase the best of Scottish farmed salmon at the highest level in both the US and Scottish political arenas,” commented Brian Simpson, Chief Executive of Scottish Quality Salmon.

The delegation of US Congressmen and Washington officials will be in Scotland during the week of 21st March as part of a high profile visit to strengthen links between Scotland and the USA before Tartan Week. The First Minister Jack McConnell MSP is to meet with delegation later in the week.

Tartan Week is a ten-day celebration of Scottish-American links that is being held across the USA on 1st -10th April 2005. Scottish Quality Salmon will be showcased in the Food and Drink zone of the Scottish Village in the Vanderbilt Hall in New York’s Grand Central Terminal, via cookery demonstrations and tastings, as well as consumer literature and video footage.

Some 22,739 tonnes of Scottish farmed salmon were exported to the USA in 2003.
