Granny really did know best!

Fish oils help to keep you mobile
For years, children and adults have reluctantly endured unpleasant tastes in an attempt to prevent aching joints and increase mobility. Now, it seems like granny really did know best – there is a nicer way to take your ‘dose’ of fish oils.

Along with improving heart health1, infant and child development and the appearance of the skin, eating oil-rich fish like salmon can help alleviate the symptoms of arthritis.

Fish oils have traditionally been used to improve the mobility of joints and provide relief to stiff and achy joints, and many scientific studies on arthritis have shown that it really does make a difference.

Fish oils are effective in reducing inflammation and can reduce the number of tender joints and increase the time before fatigue sets in.

It's all thanks to the presence of particular types of omega-3 essential fatty acids in oil-rich fish, called EPA and DHA, which have anti-inflammatory properties and may even allow people with arthritis to reduce the dosage of anti-inflammatory drugs.

The Food Standards Agency suggests eating at least two portions of fish each week, one of which should be oil-rich like salmon. Quick and easy to prepare, it's so simple to create a tasty dish for all the family to enjoy.

Hot smoked salmon Florentine

Ingredients make 1 portion
• 60g fresh spinach, washed and trimmed
• 60g hot smoked Scottish salmon
• 1 medium free-range egg
• 1 tablespoon low-fat Greek style yoghurt
• 1 tablespoon skimmed milk
• 1 teaspoon chopped chives
• Pinch of sea salt and freshly ground black pepper
• 2 slices ciabatta sprayed with one-cal olive oil
Gran Salad
Method:
1 Cook the spinach for 3 minutes in a microwave, drain away any excess liquid.  Place in a heatproof dish such as a large ramekin or gratin dish.
2 Poach the egg for 4 minutes in simmering water with a little lemon juice or white wine vinegar. Drain the egg and place on top of the spinach.
3 Break the salmon into bite-sized pieces and place on top of the spinach and around the egg.
4 Mix together the yoghurt, milk and chives, season with a little salt and pepper.  Spoon over the egg, salmon and spinach.
5 Place under a hot grill for about 5 minutes.
6 Toast the ciabatta on both sides and serve with the Florentine.
