Scottish Salmon “Disappointed” at Prince Charles, Duke of Rothesay’s decision to import Alaskan fish for smoking in ScotlandSid Patten, Chief Executive of the Scottish Salmon Producers’ Organisation (SSPO), says he is “disappointed” the Prince of Wales has chosen to import Alaskan Salmon into Scotland for his Duchy Original smoked salmon. It was revealed today that the Prince, also the Duke of Rothesay, imports the Alaskan salmon into Scotland for smoking at Macrae Smokers in Fraserburgh for his new Christmas range in Sainsbury’s. Mr Patten said: “We are extremely disappointed with the Prince’s decision to import salmon from thousands of miles away to be smoked here in Scotland where we offer a premium product on his own doorstep. It is especially ironic that this has been revealed in Scottish Food Fortnight, when we are supposed to be celebrating the best Scotland has to offer, especially our farmed salmon. “Scotland provides a premium product in a wide range of options including organic salmon, regional differentiated product ranges with leading retailers in the UK, award winning Label Rouge salmon for France, and we export our fish all around the world, even to the Japanese for Sushi. It amazes me that such a well established brand like Duchy Original, with a reputation for sourcing top quality, locally produced, products should choose to shun our excellent salmon produced right on the smoker’s doorstep.” Scottish Salmon has been featured in Scottish Food Fortnight and is being enjoyed in the Scottish Parliament as MSPs are offered locally produced salmon on the menu as part of the celebrations.END 10th September 2006 Notes: For further information or to arrange an interview with Sid Patten contact either:
