Scottish Salmon at Buckingham PalaceScottish Salmon has been given the royal seal of approval having attended a reception given by The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh on Tuesday 19th December at Buckingham Palace.
Sid Patten, chief executive of Scottish Salmon, was among some 250 guests from all walks of life at the ‘Achievers’ Reception’, all of whom are considered to have made a ‘significant contribution to local or national life in 2006’. “It was an honour and a privilege to attend the prestigious event,” said Patten. “To represent the salmon farming industry at Buckingham Palace reflects the growing recognition of the work of my organisation and the industry as a whole. “It was particularly pleasing as I enjoyed a brief conversation with The Queen, during which we spoke about the importance of our industry, particularly to the many remote, rural communities on the west coast and islands of Scotland,” he added.
The ‘achievers’ came from all parts of the UK and represented a wide range of sectors including food, sport, voluntary work, armed forces, health and the arts. Well-known guests included The Queen's granddaughter Zara Phillips, who won gold in the World Equestrian Championships earlier in the year and was recently crowned ‘Sports Personality of the Year’; comedian David Walliams who swam the Channel to raise money for charity, and; actress Thandie Newton who won a Bafta for her role in the film 'Crash'. Her Majesty The Queen has previously granted fresh Scottish salmon the royal stamp of approval, a Royal Warrant. Royal Warrants are a mark of recognition to people or companies who have regularly supplied goods or services for at least five years to certain members of the Royal Family. They are regarded as a mark of excellence and quality, and are highly prized. Notes:
