Farmed and wild salmon interests forge ahead with two new management agreements for Argyll and LochaberRelationships between wild and farmed salmon interests are forging ahead with another two Area Management Agreements (AMAs) being signed in the Argyll and Lochaber Region. This brings the total number of signed agreements to 18, and leaves only the Sound of Jura to complete full coverage in this the largest Region under the Tripartite Working Group (TWG) Programme. The new AMAs cover Loch Ailort and the coastal waters surrounding the Isle of Arran. Lucy Fry, TWG Regional Development Officer for the Region described the signings as hugely encouraging. “The Tripartite process is all about finding solutions to ensure the long-term health of wild and farmed salmon, so that each sector has a sustainable and successful future,” she said. “It’s backed by the Scottish Government as well as the salmon farming industry and the wild fish interests, but it is very encouraging that local parties continue to build trust and reach agreements for local solutions,” she added. Notes for editors: 1. The Scottish Government is the principle sponsor of the TWG (www.tripartiteworkinggroup.com) to the tune of £320,000 a year. The Crown Estate and Highlands and Islands Enterprise each contribute £20,000 to support TWG development work on Skye. 2. Ailort AMA signatories are: Marine Harvest Scotland, Lochaber Fisheries Trust and Lochaber District Salmon Fisheries Board. 3. Arran AMA signatories are: Lighthouse Caledonian Ltd (Formally PanFish Scotland Ltd), Argyll Fisheries Trust, Argyll District Salmon Fisheries Board and Arran Rivers Improvement Association. 4. The AMAs were signed on the 12th and 17th December respectively. ENDS For further information, contact Julie Edgar on 0789 987 5151. |
