Salmon farming industry best served by SSPO

Commenting on the publication of an independent review of the Sea Fish Industry Authority (SFIA) Sid Patten, Chief Executive of the Scottish Salmon Producers’ Organisation (SSPO), said:

“The overwhelming view of the salmon farming industry in Scotland is that it is best served by an organisation dedicated to safeguarding its long-term future.

“We have already worked together with SFIA on a couple of mutually beneficial projects and we fully appreciate that there are opportunities for even closer co-operation. We have had discussions to this end, which we look forward to progressing as and when appropriate.

“However, the specialist needs of the salmon farming industry are much better served by an organisation, closely directed by industry, which has appropriate expertise across its political, technical and communications remits.”
